Actor Mohanlal re-elected as AMMA president for third consecutive term

Actor Unni Mukundran will be the new treasurer of AMMA as no other candidates have submitted their nominations for the post.

KOCHI: For the third consecutive term, actor Mohanlal will continue as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Mohanlal was the only candidate for AMMA's presidency post when the list of candidates for various posts including vice-president and general secretary of the association was announced on Wednesday. The tenure will be for three years from 2024 to 2027, and the election for other posts will be held in Kochi on June 30.

Actor Edavela Babu had earlier announced his decision to step down from the general secretary's post, and will not contest for any posts this time. He had been an active member of AMMA since its formation in 1994, working in various capacities such as joint secretary, and secretary for over three decades.

Meanwhile, actors Jagadish, Jayan R and Manju Pilla are contesting for the vice president's post while actors Kukku Parameswaran, Siddique and Unni Shivapal have submitted their nominations for the general secretary's post.

Anoop Chandran and Baburaj Jacob are the candidates for the joint secretary's post.

Actor Unni Mukundran who was last seen in this year's Tamil action thriller Garudan, will be the new treasurer of AMMA as no other candidates have submitted their nominations for the post.

The candidates for the new executive committee members of AMMA are Ananya, Ansiba Hassan, Joy Mathew, Kalabhavan Shajon, Ramesh Pisharody, Rony David, Sarayu Mohan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Suresh Krishna, Tiny Tom, Tovino Thomas, and Vinu Mohan.

As per the bylaws of AMMA, there should be four woman representatives in the 17-member governing body. Since two women candidates are contesting for the post of office bearers, the number of women reservation in the executive committee members to be elected will be declared after counting of votes to the post of office bearers, a release said.
